National seminar on the writing of Bharatiya Itihash on Bharatiya Perspective by BISS Assam.
Guwahati: Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti Assam, in association with the Indian Council of Historical Research New Delhi, conducted a one-day national level Seminar on “ Writing of Bharatiya itihasa with Bharatiya Perspective” recently. Dr. Subhajit Choudhury was the organiser of the workshop on behalf of BISS Assam. Professor Sudeshna Bharttacharjya moderated the inaugural session, whereas Dr. Juri Sarma and Dr. Ankita Dutta moderated the Technical Session I and II, respectively.
Dr. Balmukun Pandey, organising Secretary Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana had inaugurated the workshop. Pandey said that it is time to write the itihas of Bharat with Bharatiya perspective to make this nation a world leader. Dr. Santosh Kumar Shukla, Dean, School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies Jawaharlal Nehru University, one of the resource persons, spoke on Sanskrit in Itihas lekhan in which he categorically mentioned that one should know Sanskrit to know Bharatiya History.
He also mentioned three Indian languages, specifically Sanskrit, Pali and Prakrit, which are the base of Indian history. Without knowing these languages, the life and soul of Bharatiya itihas cannot be explored. Prof. Mahaveer Prasad Jain, an eminent Historian, narrated how Bharatiya itihas has been destroyed from 1780 to 1947 during the British raj and post-independent period by pseudo-secular liberals who are the product of Allahabad and Aligarh university.
The product of these universities who deliberately destroyed the Indian value system amongst them are Md. Habib, Ifran Habib, Romila Thapar, Bipin Chandra, Tara Chand and many more. Dr. Om Jee Upadhyay, Director ICHR, has narrated the paradigm shift of Writing of Ithihas and approaching Bharat as Biswaguru. The various works, such as Revival of Saraswati River Civilisation, Derecognition of Aryan Invasion, theory are the example of the paradigm shift of Bharatiya Itihas writing.
Lastly, Prof. Srinivasan Kalyanaraman, an eminent scientist on Saraswati river excavation work, has narrated how Saraswati was flowing the maritime life of that time and plan to revive the Saraswati river. The workshop concluded with the address of Prof. Dilip Kumar Phukan, President Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti Assam.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple projects in Somnath, Gujarat today via video conferencing. The projects inaugurated include the Somnath Promenade, Somnath Exhibition Centre and reconstructed temple precinct of Old (Juna) Somnath. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of Shree Parvati Temple during the event. Shri Lal Krishan Advani, Union Home Minister, Union Tourism Minister along with CM and Deputy CM of Gujarat were present on the occasion.
Congratulating the devotees all over the world, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Sardar Patel who showed indomitable will power for the revival of India’s ancient glory. Sardar Patel linked Somnath Mandir with independent spirit of independent India.

The Prime Minister said that in initiatives like Statue of Unity and transformation of Kachch, Gujarat has seen from the close quarters, the results of linking modernity with tourism. ‘It has been demand of every time period that we look for new possibilities in religious tourism and strengthen the links between pilgrimage and local economy” the Prime Minister pointed out.
The Prime Minister said that Lord Shiva gives rise to development and creativity amidst annihilation and destruction. Shiv is unending, can’t be expressed and eternal. ‘Our faith in Shiva makes us aware of our existence beyond the limits of time, gives us the strength to face the challenges of time’, said the Prime Minister.
Reflecting on the history of the revered temple, the Prime Minister recalled the repeated destruction of the temple and how the temple rose after every attack. ‘It is a symbol of the belief that truth can’t be defeated by falsehood and faith can’t be crushed by terror.’ “The destructive powers, the thinking that tries to establish an empire on the basis of terror, may dominate temporarily, but, its existence is never permanent, it cannot suppress humanity for a long time. This was true when some attackers were demolishing Somnath, it is equally true even today, when the world is apprehensive of such ideologies.”, the Prime Minister insisted.

The Prime Minister said that reconstruction of Somnath temple to grand renovation is due to centuries of strong will and ideological continuity. ‘Great men like Rajendra Prasad ji, Sardar Patel and KM Munshi faced difficulties for this campaign even after independence. Still, finally Somnath Mandir got established as divine pillar of modern India in 1950. The Country is moving towards amicable solutions of difficult problems. A bright pillar of the glory of modern India is coming up in the form of Ram Mandir’, he said
He said the our thinking should be to learn from history to improve our present and create a new future. Referring to his mantra of ‘Bharat Jodo Andolan’, Shri Modi said that this is not just geographical connectivity but connect in thoughts also. ‘This also is a pledge for connecting the building of future India with our past’, said the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister said “For us essence of history and faith is SabkaSaath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka, Vishwas and SabkaPrayas”.The Prime Minister highlighted the role of the faith and belief system in the underscoring the unity of India. He said ‘From Somnath and Nageshwar in the west to Vaidyanathin the east, from Baba Kedarnath in the north to Shri Rameshwar, at the extreme southern end of India, these 12 Jyotirlingas serve to connect the whole of India.Similarly, the arrangement of our four dhams, the concept of our Shaktipeeths, the establishment of different pilgrimages in different corners of our country, this outline of our faith is actually an expression of the spirit of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'.’
Continuing with the role of spirituality in strengthening the unity of the nation, the Prime Minister dwelled upon the national and international potential of tourism and spiritual tourism. He said that the country is reviving the ancient glory by building modern infrastructure. He gave example of Ramayana circuit which is apprising the Ram Bhakts about new places related to lord Ram and making them feel how Lord Ram is entire India’s Ram. Similarly Buddha Circuit providing facilities to the devotees from world over.

The Somnath Promenade has been developed under PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) Scheme at a total cost of over ₹ 47 crore. The Somnath Exhibition Centre, developed in the premises of ‘Tourist Facilitation Centre’, displays the exhibits from dismantled parts of old Somnath temple and its sculptures having Nagar style temple architecture of old Somnath.
The reconstructed temple precinct of Old (Juna) Somnath has been completed by Shree Somnath Trust with a total outlay of ₹ 3.5 crore. This temple is also referred to as AhilyabaiTemple since it was built by Queen Ahilyabai of Indore, when she found that the old temple was in ruins. The entire old temple complex has been holistically redeveloped for the safety of pilgrims and with augmented capacity.
Shree Parvati Temple is proposed to be constructed with a total outlay of ₹ 30 Cr. This will include temple construction in Sompura Salats Style, development of Garbha Griha and Nritya Mandap.

In the last two years after reorganisation of J&K, the people-centric and community-led approach has ushered in a new dawn, particularly by prioritising the development of the region and grassroots democracy
The month of August marks the second anniversary of the reorganisation of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), which converted J&K and Ladakh into two separate Union Territories, following the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A. During these two years, there has been speculation on the extent of progress and development that J&K has witnessed. To put an end to such speculation, it is timely to review the development that the State has witnessed since the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A.
Recognising the ambivalence created by the special status, Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee took up the cause of Jammu and Kashmir Praja Parishad, demanding that the State be fully integrated with the rest of India under the same Constitution. During his visit to Jammu in August 1952, he once told a mammoth meeting: ‘I will get you the Indian constitution or lay down my life for it.’ Unfortunately, Dr Mookerjee, a humanitarian, nationalist, and the greatest statesman and parliamentarian of India, died in custody in J&K while leading an agitation against the provision. With his death, a long-drawn demand of millions of Indians, including the people of J&K, remained a distant dream till two years back.
By recognising J&K as a Union Territory of India, the ruling party has rectified a historical mistake and barred the history from repeating itself. The decision has empowered the people from within and given the capability to withstand any vagaries from outside. The people of J&K are now able to secure the rights and privileges available to citizens all over the country.
1.#Extending Good Governance :
For the first time in seven decades, certain progressive laws such as the Scheduled Caste and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1954, the Whistle-Blowers Protection Act, 2014, the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Act, 1993, the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forests Rights) Act, 2007, the National Commission for Minorities Act, and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, can now be availed by the people in the valley akin to 170 more Central laws which are applicable to J&K.
Another revolutionary change that the ruling party introduced was the Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Act, 2020, which notified Kashmiri, Dogri, Urdu, Hindi, and English as official languages of the Union Territory, thus, fulfilling another long-standing demand as well as boosting new aspirations and securing the future of succeeding generations.
There are other major initiatives to boost the development of the UT, such as several major road projects, two new AIIMS and seven new Medical Colleges, which are under process of completion, the notification of new industrial policy worth Rs 28,400 crore package to accelerate industrial growth in J&K and create 4.5 lakh jobs, among others.
2.#Ensuring Accountability and Accessibility :
In the past two years, the Union Territory (UT) has availed constitutional advantage and protection as well as ensured financial stability by exercising Constitutional provisions that protect the rights of the people in case of failure of Constitutional machinery. The enforcement of the Right to Information Act, 2005 has ensured clarity of the information to the citizens, prevention of corruption and promotion of accountability in the working of every public authority.
One of the momentous changes was the dissolution of the discriminatory legal provision, which prevented women in J&K from retaining their rights if they married outside the State. Other measures that have ensured the region’s mainstreaming are the direct supervision of the Central Vigilance Commission concerning anti-corruption cases and the setting up of the 18th Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) for the UTs J&K and Ladakh.
3.#Future Trajectory :
Given the scenic beauty and rich resource availability of the land of J&K, the Central Government is identifying and utilising the productive capabilities of the different regions of the Valley to trigger the growth impulses, thereby expediting economic growth for the people. The establishment of the three-tier Panchayati Raj System and the election and Constitution of Block and District Development Councils with the approval of the Union Cabinet for the adaptation of the Jammu & Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989 are important initiatives in this direction.

The three-tier system, which was not there in Kashmir before, will strengthen grassroots level democracy by providing the opportunity to the people to elect their local representatives. As the power to manage local bodies will go to the people, the locally elected representatives will participate in the district and block-level planning and implement welfare schemes. As experienced by the UT in the past two years, a people-centric and community-led approach has facilitated the development of democracy along with the cultural and constitutional integration of J&K.
To consolidate the democratic and development trajectory, Prime Minister Modi held a high-level meeting with various political parties of J&K in June this year. They have also expressed their consensus to be part of the future trajectory intended to strengthen democracy and the development of the region further.
The various initiatives along with the coming on board of various regional parties in the future vision of the Modi government under ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’ demonstrate leadership acumen and astuteness. In the last two years since the reorganisation of J&K, the people-centric and community-led approach has ushered in a new dawn, particularly by prioritising the development of the region and grass-root democracy.

The much-hyped Kerala healthcare model has collapsed, with the COVID-19 cases increasing day by day. Kerala recorded 24,296 cases and 173 deaths on Tuesday (August 24). TPR rate has risen to an alarming level of 18.04 Per cent.
India logged in 37,642 fresh cases on Tuesday, the highest single-day count since August 13. As per reports, the state of Kerala attributed to nearly 65 per cent of the Covid tally. Tuesday’s count of 24,296 was the highest single-day tally of cases in the state since it recorded 28,798 on May 26.
24,296 COVID cases were reported while 1,34,706 samples were tested.

A principal communist protagonist Pushpa Kumar Dahal, also known as Prachanda, was virtually toying with the idea of quitting politics and dedicating future time to "writing books".
New Delhi: Just around the time mainland Asia and the world were debating the rise of radical Islam and Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, in another corner in South Asia, there was a debate on the growing ‘irrelevance’ of communism.
In Nepal, a principal communist protagonist Pushpa Kumar Dahal, also known as Prachanda, was virtually toying with the idea of quitting politics and dedicating future time to "writing books".Reportedly, this is what he had told a closed-door meeting of party leaders, according to a report in Nepal’s leading English daily ‘The Kathmandu Post’.
Prachanda was so upset with the situation in the last few years that he went on to remark–“Communist parties in the world have fallen.” He also warned: “If we continue with our current activities, our party will be of new use.” Dahal got the first shocker in terms of a bitter mandate when his party was reduced to a third party position in 2013–within five years of emerging as the single largest party in 2008. For some years, Prachanda and his loyalists did not get their ‘importance’ in Kathmandu’s high-drama power politics, too.
But now, on August 19, 2021, Nepal’s major Leftist political player CPN-UML has split; and observers in the Himalayan nation say this would help the Maoist Centre (of Dahal/Prachanda) to get some relevance as the split would have serious ramifications electorally.
The breakaway UML faction led by former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is expected to extend support to the incumbent Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. However, Lok Raj Baral, a political scientist, has told the media that “A split in the UML was Dahal’s interest, rather than Deuba’s”.
Baral also shared the grim view that communism under Prachanda was losing its sheen in Nepal. He said: "There is a realisation in Maoist Centre (party) that its relevance is over and it does not have any good agenda to sell during the elections.” It remains to be seen whether the formation of splintered groups would help Dahal get back his relevance in Nepal politics.
China connection:
But developments in communist parties in Nepal have some bearing on China as well. Around 2017-18, China had played a role in ‘quick-fix’ trying to bring two communist parties CPN-MN and CPN-UML, together.
K P Sharma Oli dominated the government's CPN-UML scene, but nothing much was done or achieved in terms of ‘communist’ penetration in rural Nepal politically. As Oli’s position strengthened, his detractors Prachanda (Dahal) and Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal got together to target Oli and demand his resignation.
Finally, the Nepal Communist Party (formed by united the rival factions in 2018) also split after Oli had dissolved the House of Representatives in December 2020. Nepal’s politics seemed to have little interest in political stability.

New Delhi: Zarifa Ghafari, a former Afghan mayor on Tuesday (August 24), said that Pakistan has a significant role behind the Taliban seizing control of the war-ravaged country, adding that the international community is responsible for the prevailing situation in the country.
She blamed the Afghan people for not raising their voices against terrorism.
"The role of Pakistan is very clear, every child of Afghanistan knows this," Ghafari, who at 26 became the country's first woman mayor of Maidan Shahr city that lies west of Kabul, told ANI.
Ghafari, who at 26 became the mayor of Maidan Shahr, the capital city of Wardak province has fled to Germany after the Taliban takeover. Several former government officials and Afghan experts also accused Pakistan of helping the Taliban in capturing Afghanistan.
"For whatever Afghanistan is facing today, everyone is to be blamed including local people, politicians, children, and the international community. The local people never raised their voices unitedly against all wrong, including terrorism," she added.
Zarifa Ghafari is now considering meeting high-ranking officials, politicians and women of different countries to draw attention to the crisis in Afghanistan.
"My aim is to meet high-ranking officials, politicians and women of different countries to make them aware of the real situation in Afghanistan, and ask them to join me for the start of a movement."
Recounting her last few days in Afghanistan, Ghafari said the Taliban, who landed up at her home searching for her, beat up her house guard.
"I can not forgive anyone as today I have lost all achievements of the past 20 years. I have nothing left today. I only have the soil from my land with me today," she said.
She claimed the Taliban was killing "one-by-one" those who spoke against them.
"Taliban have a list of people who took a liberal approach during the earlier internationally recognized regimes, Ghafari said while recalling that the Taliban searched for her at her residence in Afghanistan and thrashed the security guards deployed there.
"Just around nine or 10 am Taliban have been to my house, they were asking for me, and they grabbed my car away they beat my guards. They were all searching for me. And those people who have been always speaking against them against their resistance and everything, and they're killing them one by one, they kill too many people," she said.
"Everyone is to be blamed, including local people, youth, politicians, for the current situation of Afghanistan," said the former mayor of Maidan Shahr, Kabul.
When asked whether the Taliban will face resistance from Afghans, Ghafari urged Afghans to raise their voice against the Taliban: "Yes, definitely. Do you know why they (Taliban) are killing people like me? Because they don't want other people to know what they are. They don't want Afghans to stand against them".
"Afghanistan was ours and it'll remain ours no matter who comes. If women like me are now not there it's because... Just like a tiger who takes two steps back to come back with more force...We have to show to the world the real face of Taliban in Afghanistan."
Following the forceful takeover by the Taliban, fear and panic have engulfed Afghanistan, and many people are trying to flee the country in order to escape the terror group.
On Tuesday, Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said she has received harrowing and credible reports of serious violations of and human rights abuses in Afghanistan under the Taliban, including executions of civilians.
