Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today interacted virtually with participants of the Viksit Vibrant Village Programme 2026, during which young MYBharat Volunteers shared their experiences from border villages in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Ladakh. The interaction highlighted the transformation of these villages through improved infrastructure, connectivity and public services, along with women-led development, tourism, community participation and stronger national integration. More than 5,000 MYBharat Volunteers from 245 districts across the country joined the programme virtually.

Introducing the programme, MYBharat Volunteer Shri Divyansh Joshi from Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu outlined initiatives including the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue, Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament, Budget Twist, mentorship and volunteering programmes. He said more than 2.30 crore young people had benefitted from MYBharat initiatives, while 2.86 lakh youth participated in the nationwide quiz through which 403 volunteers were selected to visit border villages. Recounting his visit to Leo village in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, he highlighted interactions with residents, senior citizens and schoolchildren, career counselling for local youth, sports and cultural activities, the leadership of the woman Sarpanch and the functioning of the Ayushman Arogya Mandir. He said his homestay experience showed that belonging transcends language and State boundaries, adding that the volunteers paid homage to the country’s brave soldiers at the Kargil War Memorial and would compile their experiences for submission to the Prime Minister while remaining committed to the vision of Viksit Bharat.

MYBharat Volunteer Ms Nikita Pravin Solanki from Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu said her selection through the MYBharat quiz enabled her first independent journey to Dhar Chango Nichla village in Kinnaur district. The affectionate welcome extended by the villagers strengthened her confidence and reflected changing societal attitudes towards women. Through her interactions with the woman Pradhan, Panchayat representatives, farmers, senior citizens and children, she witnessed the multiple responsibilities shouldered by rural women and found, contrary to her earlier perceptions, quality roads, regular electricity, drinking-water connections and digital connectivity, which residents attributed to the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission and Ayushman Bharat. She also participated in cleanliness, sports and cultural activities, recalled the curiosity of village children about her home region and said she continued to remain in touch with her host family.

Recalling his Diwali visit to the Chango region in 2016, the Prime Minister said Ms Solanki’s journey reflected the growing confidence of India’s daughters and that MYBharat had transformed individual journeys into one national family. “Solo travelling is a way of discovering the world while discovering yourself,” observed Shri Modi.

MYBharat Volunteer Shri Sunil Kumar Kela from Jalore, Rajasthan, said that being from a border village himself enabled him to connect readily with the people of Dhar Chango Uprela village in Himachal Pradesh. Despite geographical and climatic differences, he found the people of both regions united by courage, patriotism and warmth. He remained connected with his family through video calls, showing them the Sutlej River, school, Jan Aushadhi Kendra, hospital and sports facilities, while his social-media posts encouraged friends to explore MYBharat. His initial apprehensions regarding roads, accommodation, electricity and mobile connectivity were dispelled by the high-quality roads reaching the homestay, solar-energy installations and improved infrastructure that had transformed daily life. He added that he remained in contact with his host family and had invited them to visit Rajasthan.

The Prime Minister observed that young people from border villages across Rajasthan, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and the North-East shared a common outlook and that border residents, though geographically distant, remained emotionally deeply connected with the nation. “Those who were last in priority earlier are now the first,” remarked Shri Modi.

MYBharat Volunteer Ms Bhavya Shri from Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh said her desire to learn beyond academics led her to MYBharat and to Harsil Valley in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Her initial concerns about the unfamiliar climate, food, culture and lifestyle were dispelled by the hospitality of local residents and officials, while interactions with Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel deepened her appreciation of their discipline, humility, dedication and commitment to the nation. She said participants from different States, languages and cultures arrived as strangers but returned as one family, reflecting the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. Photographs of the Nelang and Jadung Valleys and apple orchards generated considerable interest among her friends, many of whom subsequently registered on MYBharat. She also recalled the equipment provided to help participants adapt to the cold climate, the resilience of a resident who chose to remain in his landslide-affected native village despite hardship, and the peaceful, meditative character of the Garhwali dance in contrast with the energetic folk dances of her home State.

Recalling his visit to Mukhwa village in Uttarakhand, the Prime Minister said the interaction reaffirmed his belief that India’s youth place the nation first. “The manner in which all of you have lived the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat will inspire many more young people,” observed Shri Modi.

Twenty-one-year-old MYBharat Volunteer Ms Sayantika Mistry from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands thanked the Prime Minister for envisioning MYBharat as a platform enabling crores of young people to contribute to nation-building. Recounting her journey from sea level to Maan village in Ladakh at an altitude of nearly 17,000 feet, she described suffering from acute mountain sickness and the care extended by the MYBharat team and ITBP personnel, including doctors who prioritised treating her as their guest before attending to their own personnel. She said the experience showed that ITBP personnel not only protected the borders but also cared deeply for citizens and made her appreciate the resilience required to live in high-altitude conditions. Contrary to her family’s expectation of poor connectivity, she found reliable internet, QR-code and UPI payment facilities and Wi-Fi in the border region. She also interacted with local children, one of whom expressed a desire to visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and highlighted the community spirit through which residents collectively organised weddings and monastery events, restored a damaged mobile tower and constructed a storage facility for its batteries.

Encouraging Ms Mistry to document her experience through articles or a book so that others could better understand the country’s vastness, people and shared sense of belonging, Shri Modi remarked, “When you share joy, it multiplies.”

MYBharat Volunteer Shri Ashish Soni from Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, who is preparing for the Civil Services Examination, thanked the Prime Minister for enabling young people to contribute suggestions during the Budget-making process. Sharing his experience of Kaza Khas in Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti region, he said his parents, who remembered a time when mobile connectivity in remote areas was difficult, were astonished when he video-called them from nearly 14,000 feet. Describing MYBharat as a bridge between a generation that had witnessed struggle and another witnessing transformation, he recounted writing letters from the world’s highest post office at Hikkim to the Prime Minister, his family, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Defence Minister and his District Magistrate. He said India was connected not only through metros and airports but also through institutions serving its remotest regions and highlighted QR-code payments at around 14,500 feet as evidence that Digital India had become a source of trust across the country. His interactions with women’s self-help groups introduced him to entrepreneurship through homestays, digital platforms and sea buckthorn-based products, while discussions on the PM MUDRA Yojana and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana focused on expanding livelihood opportunities. He also highlighted the role of the Border Roads Organisation-built Chicham Bridge in improving connectivity, tourism and economic activity, besides noting the region’s potential for night tourism.

Observing that technology had reached every corner of the country and that purchasing local products would generate employment, support livelihoods and carry regional identities across India, Shri Modi urged, “Wherever you travel, spend at least five per cent of your travel budget on buying products from local people.”

Concluding the interaction, the Prime Minister extended his best wishes to the young participants. The programme highlighted MYBharat’s role in enabling young people to experience first-hand the transformation of India’s border villages, dispel outdated perceptions and deepen their understanding of the country’s cultural diversity, developmental progress, community participation and the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.

This program is truly special. Youth from nearly 250 districts of India are connected with this programme, and I warmly welcome you all.

A few years ago, we created the My Bharat platform. Today, millions of young people across the country are part of it, and they are doing commendable work. From the Viksit Bharat Dialogue to the Vibrant Village Program, you have shown your strength and capability.

Friends,

During the Young Leaders Dialogue, I shared an idea: instead of only connecting virtually, why not step onto the ground, experience India, live India, and understand India? The aspirations for development in villages can only be felt by visiting them. In our border villages, the desire for progress is matched by a deep sense of patriotism. Often, it feels that for them, the nation comes first, and personal comforts later.

That is why the purpose was for youth from different districts to travel to villages in Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh. To see how people live, what they eat, how they work, their culture, their way of life, their challenges. To witness how people in the first villages of the nation remain alert for the country’s security, and how close their bond is with the rest of India. This experience was meant for our youth. The enthusiasm shown was extraordinary. Nearly 300,000 youth participated in this competition, and more than 400 were selected. You stayed for a week in these remote villages – places unknown to you. You tried to live their life, blended into their culture, connected your own traditions with theirs. This is perhaps the finest example of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

This program is special for me personally as well. When I was away from government and politics, I often visited such border villages. I built long-lasting connections with many of them. Even after entering government, I never miss an opportunity to visit border villages. You all know that for the past 25 years, I have celebrated Diwali at the border with our brave soldiers. Some of the villages you visited are ones I have been to myself. As you described your experiences, I could see those old memories vividly. Your experiences were equally inspiring – some spoke of the thrill of high mountain ranges, others of the warmth and affection of border villagers, some of the dreams of children, and some witnessed the courage and discipline of our army. Truly, the Vibrant Village experience was remarkable. Coincidentally, today is Kargil Vijay Diwas. Many of you visited areas around Kargil, where our brave soldiers triumphed in the most challenging conditions. You saw this with your own eyes. I congratulate you all for being part of this program and for gaining such enriching experiences.

A developed village is the foundation of a developed India. The journey of building a developed India is ongoing, and in this journey, the role of youth is immense. When the youth connect with the ground, they broaden the vision of a developed India. It strengthens their resolve to live for the nation and to contribute to it.

In this campaign, you must have experienced how difficult life is in border villages. Yet, despite every hardship, the people of these villages live patriotism every moment. Until a few years ago, border villages were called the “last villages” and left to their fate. Roads, electricity, water, schools, hospitals – all basic facilities were absent. You may have heard many such stories from the people there. They must have told you about the earlier conditions. And we should be proud that even in such circumstances, their patriotism never weakened, not even a fraction.

That is why, friends,

Our government has considered these border villages as the nation’s first villages. The first villages where the morning sun greets India, and where the last rays bid good night. Where the tricolor first converses with the wind. Where the world sees India for the first time. This change in thinking has transformed our border regions. In many villages, electricity reached for the first time since independence, roads reached for the first time, tap water reached homes for the first time, gas connections reached kitchens for the first time. In cities, these may seem ordinary, but for those people, they are life-changing. Farmers and orchard owners now find it easier to take fruits and vegetables to big markets. Better connectivity means life no longer stops – it moves nonstop. And you must have seen that even in these remote villages, excellent internet connectivity is now available. You described it with such joy.

Every facility has another benefit – tourism is flourishing in these regions. Villages that had become deserted are now lively again. Daughters are going to schools and colleges. A good environment for education and earning is being created. The Vibrant Village Program is accelerating this development further.

The journey of developed vibrant villages is a powerful medium of connecting everyone. And now your responsibility has increased even more. Your journey is one of unity through participation. The more India’s youth know the border villages, the more easily they will know India, connect with every corner of India, and strengthen the nation. Remember, in those villages there were no guest houses or hotels for you. The entire village itself became your host. And your stay was not just about accommodation – it became a cultural classroom. You received more satisfaction and respect than facilities. What you experienced cannot be learned in any classroom. Share these experiences with other youth. Inspire them to visit border villages. The more youth go and stay there, the more they will see and understand the nation. And as people begin to visit, facilities will reach those villages even faster.

Our government is promoting tourism in border villages. You can expand these efforts. I urge each of you to share your experiences with at least 100 other young people. Stay connected with people in your region. If you took photos or videos there, share them widely on social media. Collaborate with local content creators to promote nature and culture. If you saw local products, think about how to promote them in your area. The internet has plenty of information, but you can share authentic knowledge about these villages. Visit these villages again with your friends and family. I also encourage schools, colleges, and universities to organize educational tours to border villages.

I have always firmly believed that India’s youth like you will shape the 21st-century world. This is the true destiny of India’s youth. Reflecting on the successful establishment of the ‘Mera Yuva Bharat – MY Bharat’ platform a few years ago, the Prime Minister praised its massive expansion to encompass crores of young citizens. Commending the highly admirable work being actively executed by the youth network across the nation, he specifically noted their outstanding capabilities spanning from the Viksit Bharat Dialogue to the Viksit Vibrant Village Program. ⁠”Today, the young friends of MY Bharat are doing exceptionally commendable work across the entire country,” noted Shri Modi.⁠

Recalling the genesis of the ground-level initiative during the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue, the Prime Minister explained the vision to encourage youth to step beyond virtual interactions and understand the nation’s realities at the grassroots level. Detailing the objective to send young citizens to border villages in Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh, he shared that over 400 youth were selected from three lakh participants to immerse themselves in local cultures and witness the deep patriotic aspirations driving these regions. ⁠”Connecting your culture with the culture there is absolutely the finest example of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” affirmed Shri Modi.⁠

Sharing profound personal connections with border communities forged during extensive travels before assuming governmental office, the Prime Minister highlighted an enduring tradition of celebrating Diwali alongside soldiers on the frontlines. Drawing parallels between personal magnificent experiences and the thrilling accounts shared by the returning youth, ranging from witnessing immense local affection to the incredible courage of the armed forces, he also honored the immense sacrifices made by soldiers on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. ⁠”The bravehearts hoisted the flag of victory under the most challenging circumstances, and this entire experience of the Viksit Vibrant Village has been truly magnificent,” observed Shri Modi.⁠

Positioning developed villages as the absolute foundational pillars for building a Viksit Bharat, the Prime Minister emphasized the continuous and expansive nature of this transformative journey. Stressing that the active, grassroots involvement of the younger generation not only broadens the overarching national vision but also deeply fortifies their personal resolve to contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of this connection. ⁠”When the youth of the country actively connects with the ground, they make the overarching vision of a Viksit Bharat even broader,” asserted Shri Modi.⁠

Acknowledging the extreme hardships inherent to life in the border regions, the Prime Minister praised the local inhabitants for living and breathing patriotism every single moment despite their difficult circumstances. Condemning the past administrative neglect that abandoned these areas as ‘last villages’ completely devoid of basic amenities like roads, electricity, and hospitals, he expressed immense pride in the unbreakable nationalistic spirit maintained by the local populations. ⁠”We should be immensely proud that even under such severely deprived circumstances, the patriotism of the people in the border villages never weakened,” remarked Shri Modi.⁠

Detailing a paradigm shift in the government’s strategic approach, the Prime Minister celebrated the official redesignation of border settlements from the ‘last’ to the ‘first villages’ of India, where the morning’s first rays and the Tricolor first greet the nation. Highlighting a wave of historic, post-independence infrastructural milestones, including the unprecedented arrival of electricity, roads, tap water, gas connections, and excellent internet, he emphasized how these basic urban amenities are fundamentally transforming the agricultural economy and daily lives of the border residents. ⁠”It is strictly the result of changing this historical mindset that our frontier region is rapidly transforming today,” asserted Shri Modi.⁠

Outlining the cascading economic benefits generated by the newly established infrastructural facilities, the Prime Minister highlighted a massive resurgence in regional tourism. Painting a picture of once-deserted villages now bustling with vibrant activity, fostering an empowering environment for daughters’ education and robust local earnings, he noted that these shifts are all systematically accelerated by the Vibrant Village Program. ⁠”The Vibrant Village Program is actively giving incredible new momentum to this holistic development of the border villages,” noted Shri Modi.⁠

Characterizing the border expeditions as a profound journey of unity through participation, the Prime Minister reminded the returning youth that they received deep cultural education, profound satisfaction, and immense respect rather than mere hospitality. Asserting that such invaluable ground-level experiences can never be replicated in a classroom, he urged the participants to actively inspire their peers to visit these regions, which will sequentially accelerate the influx of modern facilities. ⁠”The more the youth of India deeply understand the border villages, the stronger our nation will ultimately become,” affirmed Shri Modi.⁠

Calling upon the youth to actively amplify the government’s intense focus on border tourism, the Prime Minister issued a firm directive for every participant to share their experiences with at least one hundred peers. Encouraging active collaborations with local content creators to promote regional culture and products, the Prime Minister urged the youth to share authentic internet content, plan future family trips, and advocate for educational tours through their respective academic institutions. ⁠”I strongly urge that every young friend among you must definitely share your authentic experiences with at least a hundred other youths,” asserted Shri Modi.⁠

Concluding the address with unwavering confidence in the younger generation, the Prime Minister declared that the youth of India hold the true destiny of shaping the 21st-century global landscape. Recognizing them simultaneously as the driving energy and the ultimate beneficiaries of a fully developed nation, he predicted a radiant national future resulting from their direct engagement with the country’s core challenges and solutions. ⁠”When our youth power directly connects with the challenges and solutions of the country, the future will absolutely and definitely be bright,” affirmed Shri Modi.⁠
