A tale of utmost sacrifice: Know the Chhattisgarh girl fighting on a BJP ticket in Kerala : 06-Dec-2020 : Organiser : Media Report.

  ----------------------------------------------------------

One can hardly identify that Jyothi, BJP candidate at the Palathulli division of the Kollengode block panchayat in Palakkad, is a non native. She speaks fluent Malayalam and dresses like a typical Malayalee girl, but she is a native of Bacheli in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Jyothi would have never thought that she would someday become Kerala’s daughter-in-law when she married Palathulli native P V Vikas who is a CISF jawan.

Jyothi lost her right hand while saving an unknown CISF jawan (now her husband Vikas). “The day was January 3, 2010. I was seated just behind Vikas in the bus. Vikas was returning to his CISF unit at Bailadila in Dantewada district. Vikas was sleeping by resting his head on the window rails of the bus. Suddenly, I saw a truck coming in the direction of the rails on which Vikas’ head was resting after the driver lost control over the vehicle. I immediately put my hand out and pushed his head inside. Before I could take back my hand, the truck banged the bus crushing my hand,” said Jyothi in clear Malayalam. Later, the Keralite jawan, Vikas married Jyothi and thus she came to Kerala in 2011.

Jyothi is seeking votes on the issues of development and nationalism. “The BJP local committee requested me to contest and my in-laws and husband agreed. I had an affinity for the BJP while in Chhattisgarh itself and now I see that the party is gaining strength in Kerala also.” Jyothi visits the houses to seek votes along with other BJP activists.

Huge Demonstrations in Nepal demanding the restoration of Hindu Monarchy : 07-Dec-2020  Organiser : Media Report.

At a time when Nepal is slowing becoming a feudatory of China, pro- Monarchy sentiments are on the rise. Massive demonstrations were held at the Nepalese capital city of Kathmandu for the restoration of Hindu Monarchy. Nepal was the Hindu Kingdom till 2008 when the monarchy was abolished. In the previous rallies slogans such as “monarchy must return to save the country” and “country above party” were raised. Slogans such as “King, please come back and save the country,” were also raised.

Rashtriya Shakti Nepal leader Keshar Bahadur Bista said that after the fall of the monarchy, Nepal has become a nation with many kings. He said, “King Gyanendra has no parallel in world history, where a monarch quietly gave up the throne to give leaders a chance, but what they did in the past 14 years was indulging in rampant corruption and plunder.” Nepal’s interior ministry has directed 77 districts to suppress the ongoing protests, granting them the right to use force to make the situation under control.

Rashtriya Prajatantrik Party, royalists groups and pro-monarchy citizens have extended support to these protestors. Damodar Wagle, president of the RPP youth organization Bagmati, told Nikkie Asia on Wednesday, “We are supporting the royalists, and our movement will continue despite the directive of the home ministry. If they use force, we will retaliate. We aim to re-establish the monarchy and a Hindu state in Nepal. We will gather support from the streets and also push for a referendum based on the 2015 constitution via winning the next general election.”

The protestors demand the restoration of the Hindu Monarchy for the ‘sake of the country’s national unity and well-being of the people’.

U.S enlists China, Pakistan among 8 other nations for "systematic, ongoing, egregious violations of religious freedom" : 08-Dec-2020 : Organiser : Media Report.

The U.S secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced the inclusion of Pakistan and China to the countries that are of particular concern for violation of religious freedom. Other nations like Myanmar, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were also added to this list for engaging in “systematic, ongoing, egregious violations of religious freedom” said Pompeo.

"Religious freedom is an inalienable right and the bedrock upon which free societies are built and flourish. Today, the United States -- a nation founded by those fleeing religious persecution, as the recent Commission on Unalienable Rights report noted -- once again took action to defend those who simply want to exercise this essential freedom," Pompeo said.

The US also listed terrorist organisations like al-Shabaab, al-Qaida, Boko Haram, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the Houthis, ISIS, ISIS-Greater Sahara, ISIS-West Africa, Jamaat Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin and the Taliban as 'Entities of Particular Concern'. Pompeo said the US did not renew the prior 'Entity of Particular Concern' designations for al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula and ISIS-Khorasan due to the total loss of territory formerly controlled by these terrorist organisations. Pompeo has informed that Sudan and Uzbekistan were removed from the list since both these nations gained tremendous progress in curbing extremism in their respective nations.

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) praised the State Department's move to put 10 nations in the list of Countries of Particular Concern (CPCs). "We are gratified that the State Department has named 10 countries as CPCs. We particularly welcome Nigeria's designation for the first time as a CPC for tolerating egregious violations of religious freedom, which USCIRF had been recommending since 2009. Nigeria is the first secular democracy that has been named a CPC, which demonstrates that we must be vigilant that all forms of governments respect religious freedom," said USCIRF Chair Gayle Manchin.

USCIRF’s request to add India, Russia, Vietnam and Syria to the list of CPCs was turned down by the state department.

 Centre introduced Co-WIN app to self-register for Covid-19 vaccine : 09-Dec-2020

The central government has introduced a new digital platform called 'CO-WIN' for COVID-19 vaccine delivery. There will be a new mobile app as well with the same name that will allow people to register for the vaccine.

The app will have separate modules for administrator, registration, vaccination, beneficiary acknowledgement and reports. Once people start to register for the app, the platform will upload bulk data on co-morbidity provided by local authorities.

The CO-WIN app is yet to be available for smartphone users and it is expected that it will be publicly available soon.

Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, briefed in detail about the Government's preparation for COVID Vaccination drive. Some vaccine candidates which are in different stages of trial may get licensed in the next few weeks, he further said.

"Every single India who needs to be vaccinated will be vaccinated, which roughly includes one crore healthcare workers, two crore frontline workers and 27 crore of prioritised age groups," said Rajesh Bhushan .

"It is to be noted that the government will take a final call on this and these stages may not be sequential. Depending on the availability of the vaccines, these can go on simultaneously," he added.

Speaking about the steps taken by the Union Government for rolling out COVID-19 vaccine, Rajesh Bhushan said, "When such a huge vaccination drive is taken up, it becomes necessary to have institutional mechanisms at the level of States, Districts and Blocks that will inspect and supervise the entire process.

This app will be useful for all those engaged in the process — administrators, vaccinators and people who are going to receive the vaccine.

The government will be vaccinating frontline workers including all healthcare professionals in the first stage and emergency workers in the second stage, the data of these people are already being compiled by the state governments.

From the third stage onwards people will be given vaccines, self-registration will be introduced, all this will be through the Co-WIN app.

There are five modules in Co-WIN app: Administrator module, registration module, vaccination module, beneficiary acknowledgement module and report module. Reports said each vaccination will take at least 30minutes and only 100 people will be administered in each session.

The different modules of the digital platform, COVID-19 vaccination app starts from registration to verification.

*The administrator module is for the administrators who will be conducting these vaccination sessions.

*Registration module is for people to get registered for vaccination. It will upload bulk data on co-morbidity    provided by local authorities or by surveyors.

*The vaccination module will verify beneficiary details.

*Beneficiary acknowledgement module will send SMS to beneficiaries. It will also generate QR-based certificates after one gets vaccinated.

*Report module will prepare reports of how many vaccine sessions have been conducted, how many people have attended those, how many people have dropped out etc.

*The mobile app will also send real-time data of the temperature of the cold-storage units to the main server.

The PM has also personally interacted with and encouraged all vaccine manufacturers and scientists, he added. Five of them, namely Covishield manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, Covaxin manufactured by Bharat Biotech, ZyKoV-D manufactured by Zydus Cadila, Sputnik V which is being manufactured by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories and NVX-CoV2373 which is another vaccine by SII are in various stages of Clinical Trial. Out of these, Covishield and Covaxin have also applied for Emergency Use Authorization. This apart, a Recombinant Protein Antigen based vaccine by Biological E Ltd, mRNA based HGCO 19 vaccine by Genova, Pune; and an Inactivated rabies vector platform vaccine by Bharat Biotech are in various stages of pre-clinical trial. Vaccine requires 2-3 doses in intervals of 3 to 4 weeks, further informed the Health Secretary. He, however, also cautioned that precautions must be undertaken even after vaccination.

Rajesh Bhushan also informed that maximum active cases are in Maharashtra, followed by Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal and Delhi. These five states contribute 54% of total active cases in the country.

End.
