Centre bans PFI and its affiliates for five years - Top political reactions :
"Terrorist incidents (by PFI) occurred in many states, disintegrating the nation and spreading violence. So we welcome this step (of Central Govt declaring PFI and its associates unlawful for five years)" said BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh.
"I welcome it. The central government has taken appropriate action against communal PFI and its other affiliates who were aiding and abetting terrorist acts in the country," said Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra.
"Some of the important office bearers went across border and had their own training. Time had come to ban this organization. GoI took the right decision. This is a message for all anti-national groups. I urge people not to associate with such organisations," Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said. "It was a long-time demand by the people of this country, by all political parties, including the Opposition like CPI, CPM and Congress. PFI was involved in anti-national activities, violence. They had their command outside the country," he added.
"I welcome the ban on (Popular Front of India) by the Government of India. Government is firm in its resolve to ensure that anyone with a diabolical, divisive or disruptive design against India shall be dealt with iron fist," Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet.
"PFI has always been a threat to the society and to the peace loving people. Earlier it was Simi, then its NDF and after which PFI was formed. We need to welcome this decision. Earlier RSS was banned and then it regrouped. It's high time all peace loving people support the secular forces and fight against Fascism," - MK Muneer, Senior IUML leader told reporters in Malappuram
