But the Punjab minister, a Congress leader, landed in a huge controversy as he questioned, without naming Pakistan, "Can an entire nation be blamed for a handful of people?"
At least 40 soldiers of the Central Reserve Police Force or CRPF were killed in a terror attack by the Jaish-e-Mohammed or JeM when their convoy was heading from Jammu to Srinagar. The incident took place approximately 20 km from Srinagar, when a terrorist driving a car detonated more than 60 kilograms of explosives near a bus which was part of the CRPF convoy. The explosion was so massive that window panes of houses and buildings were damaged in a nearly-10-km radius.
More than 2,500 CRPF were returning from leave to rejoin duty in Srinagar. They were travelling in the convoy of 78 vehicles when the terrorist struck at around 3:15 pm.
Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed the terror attack shortly after the incident and also posted photos and a video of the terrorist, Adil Ahmad Dar, who had joined the terror outfit last year.
"It (the terror attack) is a cowardly and dastardly act and I condemn it firmly. Violence is always condemnable and those who did it must be punished," said Navjot Sidhu.
However, Mr Sidhu followed that up by saying, "For a handful of people, can you blame the entire nation and can you blame an individual?"
PUBLIC REACTION AND OPINION :
Mr Sidhu's comment on Friday created a storm on social media, with dozens of people on Twitter demanding a ban on The Kapil Sharma Show, following Navjot Sidhu's remark. Mr Sidhu is a member and part of comedian Kapil Sharma's popular television show.

Last year, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's invite to Navjot Sidhu for his swearing-in ceremony became controversial. Despite strained ties between India and Pakistan and his senior colleagues advising him not to go, Navjot Sidhu went ahead citing his "personal friendship" with Imran Khan, a former cricketer.
Mr Sidhu faced sharp criticism for sharing a hug with Pakistan's army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
The Punjab Assembly today strongly condemned the Pulwama terror attack.

*Navjot Singh Sidhu said failing to protect the CRPF personnel was condemnable.
A day after Navjot Singh Sidhu faced a public backlash for allegedly trying to defend Pakistan's case in the Pulwama terror attack, the cricketer-turned-politician today claimed that his comments had been "distorted". "I was only saying that we need to find a permanent solution to the problem of terrorism. Why should soldiers be made to suffer each time? Such attacks have been happening for the last 70 years," he said.
Although Mr Sidhu had condemned the death of 40 CRPF soldiers in a terror attack at Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama in a statement on Friday, he reportedly followed it up by asking how "an entire nation can be blamed for the deeds committed by a handful". This was widely seen as a defense of Pakistan's role in the episode, and many angry netizens retaliated on Twitter by seeking a boycott of The Kapil Sharma Show - a popular television comedy programme of which the former cricketer is a member - unless he was removed. He is in the process of being replaced on the show by actor Archana Puran Singh.
"Terrorism has no religion or nationality," the Punjab Minister said in his clarification today. "The best antidote to venom is venom, and this should be dealt in the same manner. What I actually said was that we should always be open to doing good, just as we should be open to crushing evil."
He then went on to question why better arrangements were not made to ensure the CRPF soldiers' safety in Jammu and Kashmir. "When politicians come out, entire streets are blocked for their safety. But when 3,000 jawans - the very people who protect us - are out on the streets, why isn't their security a priority? They had been out since 3 am... why were they not airlifted?" he asked.
Mr Sidhu maintained that the sordid episode should not affect India's collaborative effort with Pakistan to build the much-awaited corridor to the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara in the neighbouring country. "Now, because of these three-four people (the terrorists), will we raise a question on the Kartarpur corridor? The nation cannot bow in front of terrorists," he said.
The politician has been an active proponent of the Kartarpur corridor, aimed at linking the Baba Nanak village in Punjab with the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Narowal, for the benefit of Sikh pilgrims. Both sides are yet to finalise the modalities of travel for Indian pilgrims.

*NOOR BANO STUPID IDIOT : CONGRESS LEADER
After Navjot Singh Sidhu and Congress’ social media head Divya Spandana, another Congress leader went against the party line and insulted jawans who lost their lives in the ghastly terror attack in Pulwama district. Congress leader and former MP Noor Bano blamed the Indian Army for the terror attack.
*DIVYA SPANDANA ( KANNADA FILM ACTRESS RAMYA ) ANOTHER CONGRESS FOOL
Talking to Times Now Bano said, “Whatever happened was bad and this will affect us but we don’t know how BJP will exploit this and how they will use this attack.” She also said that the Army had an indication that they might be attacked but even then no precaution was taken.
Nobody else is responsible for this, except their own negligence, she said and pinned the responsibility of the attack on the forces, the home ministry and the current government.
*Earlier, senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan defended the terrorist behind the Pulwama terror attack that killed 40 CRPF jawans and said that the bomber was harassed and beaten by the troops after which he embraced the path of violence. Bhushan’s tweet was endorsed by Spandana and she retweeted it.
“It is important to understand why so many young men in Kashmir are becoming militants and willing to die. Even US forces couldn’t hold Afghanistan and Iraq after large-scale suicide attacks,” Bhushan had tweeted.
Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu also defended Pakistan and said that talks between the two countries should not stop. Defending the dastardly attack, Sidhu said both India and Pakistan need to find a permanent solution to the Kashmir issue and added that terrorists have no religion, no country and no caste.

Sidhu won on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket from the Amritsar seat in the Indian general elections, 2004. After resigning due to a court case against him, he stood again after the ruling was stayed. He won a by-election with a good majority. In the 2009 general elections defeating Om Prakash Soni of INC by 6858 votes. This was what Sidhu had to say after not being nominated as party's from Amritsar in the Indian general election, 2014.
"Amritsar is the place where my work and action speaks for itself. Since, I started contesting elections from this holy place, I have promised myself never to abandon this place. Either, I will contest from Amritsar, or else I won’t contest elections".
Reiterating that he has no opposition to the decision as he considered himself as Arun Jaitley's protege. However, he was firm on his stand of not contesting from any constituency while accepting the decision, wholeheartedly, announced by the party.
Navjot Singh Sidhu took the oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on 28 April 2016. As per reports, Sidhu was given the Rajya Sabha nomination in a bid to prevent him from joining the Aam Aadmi Party. However he resigned from the Rajya Sabha on 18 July 2016.
He along with Pargat Singh and Bains brothers formed a new political front - Aawaaz-e-Punjab claiming to fight against those working against Punjab.
In January 2017, Sidhu joined the Indian National Congress. Contesting from Amritsar East in the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, he won the election by a margin of 42,809 votes. Third on the list of nine ministers who were sworn in was Navjot Singh Sidhu, the cricketer-turned-politician who quit the BJP last year.
2. Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur Corridor :-
In August 2018, former Indian cricketer turned politician and current Tourism Minister of the Government of Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu was invited to the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan. After being attacked over his decision to hug Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army, Sidhu claimed that Bajwa had assured him of opening the corridor before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.
Subsequently, Government of Pakistan in September 2018, decided to open the corridor before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak for visa-free entry of followers of Sikhism from India to Pakistan. After the corridor opening was confirmed by Pakistan's Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Navjot Singh Sidhu appreciated his cricket friend Imran Khan for taking such a great step.
In late November 2018, Sidhu came under controversy with a photo of Khalistani separatist leader Gopal Singh Chawla, a controversial Khalistani separatist leader accused of having close ties with Hafiz Saeed. Sidhu dismissed those claims and claimed "Thousands of people met me every day in Pakistan and clicked photographs with me. How would I know who Chawla or Cheema is?".
3. Controversial Comments on Pulwama Terror Attack :-
Navjot Singh Sidhu on 15 February 2018 condemned the "cowardly" attack on soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. However, he found himself quoting controversy when he went on to ask if "an entire nation (Pakistan) can be blamed for a handful of people (Pakistan backed terrorists) or can an individual be blamed?." Due to his comments on the attack where atleast 40 soldiers of the Central Reserve Police Force or CRPF were killed in a terror attack by the Jaish-e-Mohammed or JeM he has received a lot of backlash and people even have started bycotting a show The Kapil Sharma Show which he is a part of. It is not clear who the individual is, who Mr Sidhu spoke of. Some believe it is an indirect reference to Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan, who Navjot Sidhu has often called "a great friend". The two had played cricket for their respective nations and have known each other since.
On 16th February 2019, it was confirmed that Navjot Singh Sidhu has been asked to leave The Kapil Sharma Show following his comments on the Pulwama terror attack. He is said to be replaced by Archana Puran Singh on the show.
4. Conviction for homicide :-
In 1991 Sidhu was accused of assaulting Gurnam Singh and causing his death. He was arrested by Punjab Police after the incident and had to spend many days lodged in a Patiala jail. It was reported that Sidhu had an accomplice who helped him in the murder of Gurnam Singh; the name of the alleged accomplice was Bhupinder Singh Sandhu. Sidhu denied all charges against him. Sidhu claimed in court that he was innocent and "falsely involved in this case by the complainant party". Jaswinder Singh, nephew of Gurnam Singh, claimed that he was a witness to the crime and was ready to testify in the Supreme Court of India.
In December 2006, Sidhu was found guilty and sentenced to a three-year prison term for culpable homicide following a road rage incident. Following the sentencing, Sidhu resigned as a Member of Parliament and in January 2007 appealed to the Supreme Court. Supreme Court stayed his conviction and sentence allowing him to contest and win the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat in February 2007.

At least 60 people were killed and 72 injured on Friday evening (October 19) after a train ran into a crowd of Dussehra revellers who were watching the burning of Ravan’s effigy in Punjab’s Amritsar.
There was an outpouring of grief from across the country with the Dussehra mood turning sombre as India realised the scale of the tragedy.
HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED :
I. The annual Dussehra celebrations were to conclude with the burning of Ravan's effigy near Joda Phatak in Amritsar. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, former MLA and wife of Punjab Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was the chief guest.
*Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of Punjab minister of Tourism Navjot Singh Sidhu | PTI photo
II. Joda Phatak is a manned crossing, called so because there are two crossings. The Pathankot railway line and the Jalandhar railway line meet just after Joda Phatak where they are just metres apart. This area lies on the outskirts of the city.
*Joda Phatak is between Mananwala and Amritsar railway stations
III. An open area next to the railway tracks is the site for an annual Ravan effigy burning.
IV. Ravan was to turn into ashes by 6 pm. The train was expected to cross the tracks just before 7 pm. It reaches Amritsar station at 7 pm. But the Ravan Dahan was delayed because Mrs Sidhu, the chief guest, was late as she had to be present at other similar venues.
V. The ground was crowded and some people were standing along the railway tracks because it offered them a higher vantage point.
VI. Organisers were happy to tell Mrs Sidhu how so many had gathered to see her, so many that some were spilling on to the railway tracks.
VII. The moment the effigy was lit, firecrackers began shooting off towards the people. Mrs Sidhu was escorted away by her security guards even as a tragedy unfolded on the tracks.

VIII. As people retreated from the effigy, many of them were pushed towards the railway tracks from where many were already watching the ceremonies. Many of them were busy recording the effigy go up in flames with their mobile phone cameras.
IX. In the noise of the crackers, joyous cheers from the crowd and the ensuing commotion, people did not notice that the Jalandhar-Amritsar DMU was speeding towards them. The train had left Manawala railway station just minutes ago and was racing towards Amritsar, its destination.
X. Several of them were thrown off the spot and many came under the wheels. Moments later, severed body parts and bodies were strewn along the tracks.

XI. People rushed to take the injured to the government hospital. Some were taken to the Guru Nanak Hospital.

XII. The final death toll will have to await the dawn. But at least 60 bodies have been counted. More than 70 are being treated at different hospitals. Some are critically injured. So the death toll is feared to rise.
XIII. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was to leave for Tel Aviv on an official visit to Israel. That trip stands cancelled and he will be in Amritsar on Saturday morning. Rail Minister Piyush Goyal is in the US. He is rushing back too.

V. The ground was crowded and some people were standing along the railway tracks because it offered them a higher vantage point.
VI. Organisers were happy to tell Mrs Sidhu how so many had gathered to see her, so many that some were spilling on to the railway tracks.
