“The festival of democracy, Elections are here. I urge my fellow Indians to enrich the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with their active participation. I hope this election witnesses a historic turnout. I particularly call upon first-time voters to vote in record numbers," he said.
Targeting the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime, Modi said, “In 2014, the people comprehensively rejected the UPA. There was unprecedented anger over the UPA’s corruption, nepotism and policy paralysis. India’s self-confidence was at an all-time low and the people of India wanted to rid the nation of such decay and pessimism."
He said the last five years have shown that with the participation of 130 crore Indians, what was earlier deemed impossible has now become possible.
“Today, the people of India know that it is possible to: Become the fastest growing economy. Give a befitting reply to terror. Eliminate poverty at a record pace. Make India Swachh. Remove corruption and punish the corrupt. Ensure inclusive and extensive development," Modi said.
He said India is proud that: 2.5 crore families have electricity for the first time, 7 crore households have smoke-free kitchens and 1.5 crore Indians have got their own homes.

It is likely that the BJP may integrate both the ‘jai jawan’ and ‘jai kisaan’ themes in its communications to the voters
Experts say Congress should focus on 3 important issues- jobs, farmers’ distress and the Rafale deal
On a recent tour to Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi probably inadvertently (or purposely) gave away the possible election slogan “Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai", when he highlighted his decisive action against terrorists in Pakistan after the Pulwama attack, besides other achievements of his government.
The slogan was repeated a number of times by UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath at an event in Greater Noida on 9 March. Now that the poll dates have been announced by the Election Commission, all government advertising, which had thus far used the tagline “Namumkin Ab Mumkin Hai, will cease. It is time now for the political campaign battle to begin.
“The Modi Namumkin-Mumkin report card blitz of the past weeks has got almost every ministry to do a recount of achievements and milestones. Tonnes of money has been spent on that entire effort, though technically it is a government of India campaign and not BJP’s. But Modi will now have to focus…choose one or two most important issues that may eventually swing the votes," said Sandeep Goyal, an advertising and media veteran.
It is likely that the BJP may integrate both the “jai jawan" and “jai kisaan" themes in its communications to the voters -- underscoring the recent largesse to the farmers in the February budget, as well as celebrating the soldier after the recent Balakot strike. “National security and his ability to be a decisive leader is surely a strong theme after Uri, Pulwama and Balakot. The farmer theme though is not as strong…during his regime, a lot may have been done, but on ground the feedback is not all positive."
Goyal said that nationalism could be a big poll theme this year and Uri, the movie, had set the tone. “The happenings at Pulwama and the retaliation at Balakot will surely be a big part of the Modi narrative in the elections. Nationalism is a big stroke. National pride is an even bigger stimulus."
Unfortunately nationalism in the garb of patriotism has become mainstream over the past five years, said advertising expert Sanjay Sarma, founder SSarma Consults, a boutique branding and communications advisory. “That’s been one of the biggest achievements of this government. Since it has worked for them, I would imagine it to be the fabric that would hold their entire campaign together. While the BJP has always been about ‘nation first’, this time I see them pushing the envelope to propagate the “us versus them" or “national versus anti-national" theory in the voters mind."
That is not all. The Modi government will most likely play up some of its achievement and highlight various schemes which have been announced over the past five years, and buy more time from voters to ensure their effective implementation. “That could be the primary plank to ask people to vote them in again. Secondly, in the absence of any strong opposition within or outside, Mr. Modi’s personality and leadership may be played up again. There is still a large population of Modi fans in this country, though not as high as 2014," Sarma said.
Goyal said that Modi has already been played up in the government ads. “His entire Namumkin-Mumkin campaign showed just his picture in every ad. All his cabinet colleagues helming the ministries were conspicuous by their absence. So, Modi has turned the election into Modi versus the rest."
However Goyal added that more than causes or issues, Modi needs a winning slogan--something catchy and buzzy to project him as a pre-eminent leader of choice. Sarma, on the other hand, said that the government could talk about several achievements, especially welfare schemes like health, electrification, LPG, Swachh Bharat and housing subsidies. “They are action-oriented, on-ground missions and not mere schemes to round trip government funds and benefit a few middlemen."
Although the Congress Party has not as yet given any hint of its possible messaging to the electorate, experts say it should focus on three important issues: Jobs, farmers’ distress and the Rafale fighter aircraft deal. “All three are strong themes and easy to relate to, especially, the first two," said Goyal.
To be sure, although the Congress has the government on the back foot on Rafale, that itself cannot be an election issue. “For it to have an impact, it has to develop a larger narrative around corruption or national security. But a fight against corruption wouldn’t auger well for the Congress, given the perception around its own party," said Sarma.
However, he said there was more ammunition that Congress could use against the Modi government such as intolerance, lack of jobs, weak foreign policy and regional instability, besides peddling fake narratives and failures in the Kashmir policy, among others. “Purely from a campaign perspective, I believe Congress should counter aggression with aggression. They need to infuse more energy and get into a frontal attack mode, to somewhat swing the anti-incumbency factor in their favour. But they are a very distant second at this point. Strategising like the Congress won’t help them in these elections. They need help to think and act like the BJP, to counter BJP."

The model code of conduct will be in place till the entire election schedule ends and results are announced.
Lok Sabha elections to be held in seven phases with polling in the first phase on 11 April and the last phase on 19 May 2019.
NEW DELHI: Chief election commissioner Sunil Arora on Sunday announced the schedule of the general elections, officially putting in place the model code of conduct with immediate effect.
Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases with polling in the first phase on 11 April and the last phase on 19 May. Results for all phases will be announced on 23 May.
The model code of conduct, which ensures a level playing field between political parties during elections, will be in place till the entire election schedule ends and results are announced. During this time, the guidelines to political parties and candidates ensure that there is ‘no appeal to caste or communal feelings for securing votes’ and corrupt practices are avoided.
"Model Code of Conduct for guidance of political parties comes into effect today itself for the entire country… any violation can be dealt with in the strictest manner," CEC Sunil Arora said.
It also lays down guidelines for political parties and candidates to be followed during the poll schedule, while holding meetings, processions and conduct at polling booths. It imposes guidelines on the party in power and restraints its from combining official visits with electioneering work.
From the time elections are announced by the Election Commission, ministers and other authorities shall not announce any financial grants in any form or promises thereof, lay foundation stones etc. of projects or schemes of any kind, make any promise of construction of roads, provision of drinking water facilities etc or make any appointments in government and public undertakings which may have the effect of influencing voters in favour of the party in power.
*Congress fighting for existence, Opposition united by hatred for me: PM Narendra Modi
The Congress is fighting a battle for its existence, a shared hatred for him is the sole glue in the “united” opposition, and the next election will be a choice between governance and development on one side and chaos on the other, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in an interview to Swarajya magazine.
He said a Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) type “non-ideological and opportunistic coalition” was “the best guarantee for chaos” and spoke about the internal contradictions within the proposed grand alliance to suggest that “such instability adversely impacts the growth trajectory of our nation”. In Karnataka, after the recent assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged the single largest party with 104 seats in the 224-member assembly, but the Congress (79 seats) forged a partnership with the JD(S) by agreeing to make the latter’s HD Kumaraswamy the chief minister.
The opposition alliances are not motivated by national good, but they are about personal survival and power politics, the prime minister said. “They have no agenda except to remove Modi,” he said in the interview.
The Prime Minister was asked if he is worried about the formation of a grand alliance of opposition parties, much like the groupings that came together in 1977 and 1989 to unseat the then ruling dispensations.
Modi described as “flawed” the comparison between today’s grand alliance and that of 1977 or 1989. “In 1977, the common motive of the alliance was to protect our democracy that was under great threat due to the Emergency. In 1989, the record-breaking corruption of Bofors had hurt the entire nation,” he said.
The prime minister said there was no grand alliance, but a grand race in the opposition for the prime minister’s post. “The whole focus is power politics, not people’s progress,” he said. “How long will the dislike and mistrust these parties and leaders have for each other keep them together?”
He referred to the bitter contest between the proponents of the grand alliance idea in states such as West Bengal and Kerala. The last time, he said, the opposition tried coming together in Uttar Pradesh in 1993; such an alliance could last only two years.
The Prime Minister questioned who was the cementing element of such an alliance. The Congress, he said, is like a regional party that is in power only in Punjab, Mizoram and Puducherry. “Their ‘strength’ in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is also well known,” he said.
Modi said India knows how the Congress treated its allies, and betrayed and insulted veterans such as Chaudhary Charan Singh and HD Deve Gowda. The Congress can make sacrifices, Modi said, but for its self-interest.

"India has become a member of the Missile Technology Control Regime, Australia Group and Wassenaar Arrangement". "I attended two informal summits, in China and Russia. These gave me an opportunity to talk at length about regional and global issues with President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin. These summits are adding great strength to our friendship with China and Russia."

Modi said the 2014 mandate, when the BJP won a majority on its own (the first for a party in three decades), was “special”, but added that the BJP took allies along and made them part of the government despite having the numbers to rule the country on its own.
Modi said the BJP draws support from all social groups, and was unlike the parties that are “run by families” and draw strength only from a few social groups.
The prime minister reiterated his support to the “one-nation-one-election” idea, simultaneous state and Lok Sabha elections, and suggested that a common electoral roll and simultaneous polls would address several anomalies in the current system.
The Congress hit back at Modi. “The Prime Minister cannot tolerate the Opposition and he should not give suggestions to us about the strategy that we need to use to remove him from the post,” party spokesperson Anand Sharma said. “We know it very well. He should not complain to us that we are going to remove him. Not only him but the ouster of this government is in the national interest and we will complete that work.”
“He is in perpetual election mode and wants to be in a state of conflict with the Opposition. It is him who has prevented building national consensus on key issues,” Sharma added.” It is this mindset of continuous propaganda and confrontation that has come in the way of building national consensus on any important issue.”
The Samajwadi Party (SP) said the agenda of the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayansevak Sangh, its ideological mentor, is to weaken democracy. “To save democracy and strengthen the democratic values, it is important to remove Modi and bring a new Prime Minister. That is our agenda,” SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary said.
Sidharth Mishra, professor at the New Delhi-based Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies and a political analyst said, “The PM has rightly perceived the threat which the grand alliance poses to him. A disintegrated opposition is BJP’s best bet to come back to power in 2019.”

NOTE : 1. WHAT PM MODI JI SAID IS TRUTH ABOUT CONGRESS AND OPPOSITION PARTIES :

NOTE : 2. He called the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) a “large and happy family” of over 20 parties that is the leading coalition in various states. “NDA is not our compulsion. It is an article of faith. A large and diverse NDA is good for India’s democracy,” Modi said.
1.SETTING THE AGENDA :
In an interview to Swarajya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke of several issues -- the Maoist insurgency, Kashmir, allegations that he has centralised all power in the PMO and that his administration doesn’t have adequate talent, and his approach to foreign policy. The interview clearly set out the political platforms the BJP intends to leverage in next year’s parliamentary elections.2. LEFT WING EXTREMISM :
"..recurrent terror attacks that were common under the UPA are now history… Maoist violence has declined by 20 per cent in the affected states. The unparalleled development focus is reaping rich dividends… 44 out of 126 districts have been removed from the list of Left Wing Extremism-affected areas."
3. KASHMIR :
"Our goal in Kashmir is good governance, development, responsibility and accountability. We have appointed an interlocutor, and he is in touch with many people."4. TALENT DEFICIT :
"Just because only a few ministers and ministries make it to the front pages or prime-time debates, they are deemed as talented and others are deemed the opposite." "…the UPA, in their last four years, from 2010 to 2014, built 25 lakh houses. This is one-fourth of what the NDA government has built." "I would like to give you another example – of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. This year, the budget allocation for the welfare of SC and ST communities stood at ~95,000 crore. It was under this ‘non-talented minister’ that our government had the honour of bringing the strongest amendments in the SC/ST Act."5. FOREIGN POLICY :
"The foreign policy of the NDA government has been about unprecedented outreach with unparalleled outcomes. In 2017, for the first time ever, India registered over 10 million foreign tourist arrivals. This is about 33 per cent higher than 2014…The cumulative FDI equity inflows into India stood at about $ 222 billion in May 2014.""India has become a member of the Missile Technology Control Regime, Australia Group and Wassenaar Arrangement". "I attended two informal summits, in China and Russia. These gave me an opportunity to talk at length about regional and global issues with President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin. These summits are adding great strength to our friendship with China and Russia."
6. NORTH-EAST :
"Tripura and Mizoram are virtually free from insurgency. In Meghalaya, the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has been removed from all areas from 31 March 2018 and in Arunachal Pradesh it is remaining only in eight police stations. A system is in place which ensures that every 15 days a minister or a senior official visits the North East. I have made about 30 trips to the region myself".
7. FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION :
"I find such a discourse about damage to institutions under the BJP absurd and incorrect.…it is the Indian National Congress that has subverted our democracy, judiciary and media, time and again". "Earlier, while only a handful of self-appointed experts were seen speaking about issues, now all it takes is a tweet or Facebook post by a common citizen of India to express himself or herself. This is the power of social media."8. CONCENTRATION OF POWER IN PMO :
"If the benchmark of comparison of the present PMO is with the previous PMO, then I don’t think anyone will be surprised to find it more decisive and powerful. " "In this PMO, the 125 crore people (of India) are our ‘high command’."

NOTE : 4. Democracy is the government "of the people, by the people and for the people". However in this unfortunate country of ours the definition of democracy has reduced to " of the family, by the family and for the family". That is what the Indian National Congress has done to India and its polity.
I. The blunders made by the Indian Congress Party are so many that it becomes a herculean task to pick one big mistake. I do not know exactly what was the INC's biggest mistake, but I can state with firm conviction that India's biggest mistake was the INC.
II. So this is going to be a lengthy and extremely verbose answer (as I like many other Indians want to vent out my frustration over the INC) . I will divide the answer into two parts .
1.Ideological fallacies of the CONGRESS :
*Here I will talk about the basic tenets of democracy that the Indian National Congress got all wrong . This is more important than talking about separated and discrete events. Because if these principles are not set right soon ,blunders will be inevitable and recurrent.
1.Lack of alternate leadership - Ever since its inception the biggest failure of the INC has been the lack of alternate leadership.Apart from the Gandhi-Nehru family there has been hardly anybody who has held the helm of the INC.
2.Pseudo-Secular tactics-The secularism that INC propagates starts with abusing Hindus and ends with licking the ass of the so called "minorities".
3. Corruption - Congress has not been able to curb corruption at all. ALL INVOLVED SINCE INDEPENDENCE, 100% EVIDENCE AVAILABLE, ANYBODY CAN SEARCH AND CLEAR HIS/HER MIND, IT IS TRUTH.
Major failures of the INC :
If the Congress proved to be a flop show in terms of their ideology , their misgovernance and mismanagement made matters worse. So this are some of the major blunders :
1.Partition of India - The partition of India was the biggest blunder that the INC had made. The act of settling for a two nation decision was made by Mahatma Gandhi aided by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and allies of the INC, was directly against the sentiments of the common man who regarded Akhanda Bharat as his "pitribhoomi" and "punyabhmi" . As India celebrated its independence thousands of people were massacred on both sides of the border.Genocide ad bloodbath became common place events. Villages after villages were ransacked and looted. Rape ,murder and arson were common . Yet the Congress leaders never had to pay for a bloody decision that they had consented to.
2.Nehru Liaquat Pact-Huge amount of atrocities were faced by the Hindus in East Pakistan. There was a huge influx of refugees from East Pakistan to India. Signing the aforementioned pact did two very detrimental things: a) It prevented India from questioning about the atrocities of Hindus in East Pakistan b) It allowed influx of large number of refugees into India. The secular and economic fabric of this era was completely disturbed.
3.Article 370 and Shyama Prasad's death - The INC virtually have divided Akhand Bharat into three countries India , Kashmir and Pakistan. By guaranteeing article 370 it gave credence to Sheikh Abdullah's three nation theory. Shyama Prasad was murdered while he was protesting against this issue under mysterious circumstances.
4.Sino-Indian War -A hopelessly ill prepared Indian Army challenged the Chinese army and got defeated rather shamelessly ,all on the command of Jawaharlal Nehru.
5.Lal Bahadur Shashrti murdered in Tashkent- Lal Bahadur Shashtri was probably the only prime minister of the INC who was both honest and who had a vision for the future. He died of a heart attack at Tashkent . Surprisingly the government of the day did not seem bothered enough to ask for a post mortem for the deceased Prime Minister. This clearly shows that there is something more than what meets the eye. What is even more interesting is that this paved the way for the latest scion of the Nehru Gandhi family namely Indira.
6.Emergency - Emergency declared by Indira Gandhi government had no concrete reasons for it. She and Sanjay Gandhi imposed an autocratic rule. The freedom of press was violated . Prominent leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and George Fernandes were arrested. The common man was also not spared .Forced family planning measures created wide spread resentment among the masses. The emergency had sounded the death knell for the Indian National Congress.
7. Shah Bano case - The Shah Bano case was a milestone in the Muslim women's search for justice and the beginning of the political battle over personal law. A 60-year-old woman went to court asking maintenance from her husband who had divorced her. The court ruled in her favour. Shah Bano was entitled to maintenance from her ex-husband under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code (with an upper limit of Rs. 500 a month) like any other Indian woman. The judgment was not the first granting a divorced Muslim woman maintenance under Section 125. But a voluble orthodoxy deemed the verdict an attack on Islam. The Congress Government, panicky in an election year, caved in under the pressure of the orthodoxy. It enacted the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986. The most controversial provision of the Act was that it gave a Muslim woman the right to maintenance for the period of iddat (about three months) after the divorce, and shifted the onus of maintaining her to her relatives or the Wakf Board. The Act was seen as discriminatory as it denied divorced Muslim women the right to basic maintenance which women of other faiths had recourse to under secular law. This was an act of abject appeasement of the minorities ,it irked the common orthodox Hindu whose religious rights were constantly tampered with in the name of progressive thinking. The double standards were clearly exposed.
8.Babri Masjid demolition - The government at the center was directly responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid . They decided to deal with the issue very lightly. They followed the policy of soft Hindutva. This emboldened the crazy mob of right winged Hindu hooligans .And the Babri Masjid was demolished.Only P.V Narsimha Rao was made the scapegoat for this fiasco.
9.In the period followed India saw a very unstable period of governance and Congress was the major reason for this unstability. They would yield support to a government on the floor of the house and take back the support a few months later.Unstable government means unstable economy. The Congress decided to play with Indian economy for its selfish motives.
10.In recent times the biggest mistake that the Congress has made is putting incapable leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Manmohan Singh at the helm of affairs . They also could not deal with the rampant scams that their leaders had participated in.
In conclusion I would like to state that the mandate BJP received against the incumbent government was not a result of some immediate events . Rather it was a result of the expression of frustration that had been pent up in the aam admi since the independence.
